2007 Summer Mid-South Christian Ministry
Servant Leader Awards Announced on November 6th
On November 6, 2007, the Hope Foundation presented six Servant Leader Awards to individuals for their contributions as volunteers to Christian charitable organizations in the Mid-South. Three awards of $5,000 were made to the organizations which nominated their winning volunteer. In addition, awards of three scholarships of $2,000 were made to students who have been nominated for their service in the community. The qualifications used to evaluate the nominates included how they contributed to the organization, the impact the nominee has had on the ministry, and how they exemplified Christ-like servant leader qualities.
This year’s ministry award winners are Lisa Langley, Palmer Home for Children; Matthew Gandy, Eikon Ministries; and John Humphreys, Jacob’s Ladder Community Development Corporation. The scholarship winners are Delvin Tubbs, Streets Ministries; Brandon Privett, Crichton College; and Norma Lester, Neighborhood Christian Centers.
Hope for Memphis Fund Launched
The Hope for Memphis Fund was established by the Hope Foundation to invest strategically in Christian organizations seeking City transformation: spiritually, educationally, economically, and relationally. The Fund will make grants or loans from the surplus and earnings of the Hope Foundation and from donations made to the Fund by others. As a result of our continued growth and financial strength, all surplus funds earned from operations and fees from new donor advised funds will be added to our Hope For Memphis Fund.
The initial two areas of focus for this fund will be (1) to empower and strengthen existing Christian ministries in Memphis and (2) to promote and encourage servant leadership. Both of these areas are traditional areas of involvement for Hope. Hope Consulting Services plays an important role in capacity building for existing ministries. Servant Leadership has been promoted and encouraged through our annual Servant Leader Banquet and periodic Halftime seminars.
