Making Gifts(Grants) From Your Fund

Recommending a grant from your donor advised fund involves a three step process:

  1. Identify charities and ministries you would like to support;
  2. Give us a grant recommendation in writing (including by fax or e-mail or on-line);
  3. HCCF reviews your recommendation and makes the grant (subject to the limitations discussed below).

We request minimum grant recommendations of $25.

Organizations that can receive grants from your Donor Advised Fund include:

  • Faith-based charities or ministries- which must be tax-exempt public charities (501c3) in good standing with the IRS. They must also have a mission statement that reflects a Christ-centered purpose.
  • Secular organizations- These organizations must also be tax-exempt public charities(501c3) in good standing with the IRS, with mission and activities that are not knowingly antithetical to the Christian faith and values.

In addition to the above limitations, grants cannot be made that would be used for a purpose not permitted by the Internal Revenue Service.  Such purposes include, but are not limited to pledges, dues or membership fees, tickets, political contributions, or any purpose that confers a benefit to any individual such as tuition payments.

Scholarship Funds

Donor advised funds are prohibited from making grants to individuals, which includes scholarships.  However, scholarship funds may be established with Hope CCF if they follow the following guidelines:

  • The fund makes grants for scholarships and similar purposes;
  • we, Hope CCF, appoint all members of a scholarship awards committee established for the fund and the donor's advice about scholarship recipients is given solely as a member of the committee;
  • the donor, and parties related to the donor, do not control the committee directly or indirectly, although they are welcome to serve on the committee; and
  • all grants are awarded on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis using a procedure that has been approved by the Board of Directors of Hope Christian Community Foundation.
